SM Karate: FALL 2022 : ASHTON RANCH WEEK 11 AND KINGSWOOD WEEK 10

Hello Parents and Students!

Welcome to the Fall 2022 Semester at Ashton Ranch Week 11 and Kingswood Week 10 with Sensei Sean Milligan. Please read IMPORTANT NOTICE weekly. All children must be checked-in online, and in-person in order for us to get a proper attendance count. Since we are halfway through the semester please be sure that all absences are scheduled to be made up before the testing date of each location. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ~ PLEASE READ THIS PORTION WEEKLY!!!

ABSENCES : PARENTS BE SURE THAT YOUR STUDENTS HAVE ALL ABSENCES MADE UP BEFORE THE TESTING DATE OF EACH LOCATION, POSTED BELOW

Perfect attendance is REQUIRED before testing. Students will be allowed to test if they have 1 (one) absence, if the absence is paid and the "make-up" class is attended the next semester. Students with 2 or more absences will not be allowed to test. Speak to your instructor or class assistant for more information on make-ups. Make-ups cannot be done on testing night.

FALL 2022 VALLEY OF THE SUN KARATE TOURNAMENT - Saturday, November 12, 2022
PLEASE CHECK THE ATTACHED SCHEDULE FOR YOUR CHILD'S CHECK-IN TIME
1. Find your child's belt color
2. Find your child's name
3. Your child will either be in the Main Gym or the Secondary Gym
4. Find the ring number your child will be in, and head to that location

Total Tournament Time is estimated at 60-90 minutes
What to Bring:
Athlete Water Bottle - Water fountains will not be available.
Sparring Gear if participating in a Sparring & Noodle Battle event is required. STUDENTS MUST WEAR THEIR OWN CHEST GEAR, HEADGEAR, HAND PADS, FOOTPADS, MOUTH GUARD & CUP. Orange belts & above are required to have their own headgear with face protection! Students without proper sparring gear will be disqualified. ONLY ActivStars approved hand and foot pads will be allowed; boot style foot pads and closed hand pads. No MMA gloves allowed.
No gear is needed for Flag Sparring.
Spectator Rules of Conduct:
Proper sportsmanship is expected from all competitors and spectators.

Women's Self Defense Clinic ($10.00) - Saturday, November 19, 2022 - 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Children (infants up to age 17) that are not in our Karate Program are not allowed in the gym during class
Only WATER is allowed in the GYM, NO other drinks or food
Students, please bring your staff for Specials ($3.00)

SPECIALS - 30 minutes ($3.00)

Sensei Sean would like to invite all green belts and above OR students who are 8 years old and above to join our Specials Class. For the Fall Semester we will be learning Staff. Specials are available at Ashton Ranch from 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm and at Kingswood from 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm.

A Staff can be purchased from ActivStars Athletics, the links are at the bottom of this email.
You may purchase a 1" or 1.25" diameter dowel rod from Lowe's or Home Depot to use as a Staff. The Staff should be about the same height as the student or a little shorter. I am 5'3" so I use a 5' Staff.
Sensei Sean has a limited number of Staffs to lend out for the class.
Specials can also be used as a make-up class by paying the regular class fee of $9 or $10, depending on which class your child is in.

CLINICS - 60 minutes ($10.00)

Any Clinics we provide will be done at Kingswood Elementary on Saturdays from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, and Invites/Notices will be sent out prior to the Clinic

IN ORDER TO GET THE RIGHT SIZE, GO BY HEIGHT AND THEN WEIGHT

EXAMPLE: I AM 5'3" SO I WOULD GET A SIZE 3, BUT SINCE I AM BIGGER, I WOULD NEED TO GET A SIZE 6 TO FIT AROUND ME. IT WILL BE LONG, BUT SLEEVES AND PANTS CAN ALWAYS BE HEMMED.
